Is it a Boy or a Girl? I find out soon….
by Laura Thieme (June 25, 2008)
People often ask me if I’m going to have a boy or a girl, or if I’m going to find out. Absolutely will find out - and soon. On July 17th - less than a month away. I’m looking forward to knowing. On whether I feel I’m having a boy or a girl - I’m afraid to think it one way or another - so I don’t feel “disappointed” either way. It’s cliche but oh so true - you just want a healthy baby on all fronts. I could easily go either way - but will surely celebrate on the 17th to find out if it’s a boy or a girl and go from there.
There are old wives tails about whether or not you’re having a boy or a girl - for example, they suggest you sleep on your left side - but if you find it more comfortable sleeping on your right side - it’s possible you are having a girl. Can’t verify the accuracy or research on this by the way - but it’s fun to know these things anecdotally.

Here’s a site that shares old wives tales and myths about your baby’s gender
The Chinese Baby Gender Predictor Chart based on your age at the baby’s birth and the month the baby was conceived.
Baby Pregnancy and Ann Douglas Weighs In
Most of the sites say pretty much the same thing after you’ve read these three, so if you old girlfriends of mine are ready to weigh in on what I’m having, here goes:
I’ll be 40 when I have the baby, and the baby was conceived in a test tube in March (hee hee)
I put my hands, palms up, when my girlfriend asked me to show my hands to her
I prefer sleeping on my right side, which is a conflict in itself since they tell you to sleep on your left as it promotes blood flow to the baby. I’ve also seen two different sources on this issue - both conflicting the other
I crave both salt and sugar - but no strong cravings yet of much of anything - I was having twins - so go figure on that one. And I’ve always liked both salt and sugar so that hasn’t changed much.
When I saw the first ultrasound, I saw the activity and thought it had to be a boy - but who knows. I can see my belly move moreso on the left side of my bellybutton when I’m taking a bubble bath and slowing down enough for 20 minutes to stare at my belly sticking out. I love that by the way. This is at 4 months (16-17 weeks).
My belly is sticking out all around, from top to bottom - yesterday evening was the first day ever that I felt like I wanted to rip my underwire bra off and throw it out the window while driving - I felt growing distress driving 45 minutes on our way to dinner last night. I had waited too long to eat, and when hunger hit, I couldn’t easily appease that with real food, and on top of it, I had worked in a seated position all day with a bra on - can’t they make a better bra for having a baby? Ugh. It’s also becoming more apparent that my baby’s kicks are being felt - I’m beginning to hear my stomach more, and driving is becoming more difficult if baby is moving, I’m hungry all of a sudden and I feel restricted. I’ve pretty much avoided maternity clothes up till now, but I think it’s time to switch over to maternity clothes almost all the time now.
I did the stringie thing in Russia years ago, and she predicted a boy then.
Family says I’ll likely have a boy - hereditarily - we have more boys than girls
Okay, I’m off to the beach to take a walk because my legs are looking fat regardless of the gender of the baby.
