Five Week Countdown - Holy Moly!

It’s less than five weeks to go to scheduled c-section date.  I know the time, the date that the doctor has scheduled.  However, sometimes I wonder if Melina is moving into position for an earlier arrival.  I’m having fun the past week at experiencing her movement.  She does an amazing job of making her presence known, already.  Not much unlike her mom - :-)

She was breech two weeks ago, which is not the reason for c-section (due to fibroid surgery incision instead and risks).  She was high in my belly then, but has steadily been moving her way downwards it appears.  Her hard head, relatively of course, seems to stay in an approximate location for a couple of days, and then begin to move.  Recently, for the past few days, she’s in the middle of my tummy, smack-dab in the middle.  She moves from the right of the center of my tummy, and rolls or moves her head over to the left of center tummy.  It’s such a strong rolling sensation, than I’m often taken aback at the movement.  She must stretch or do something, because at this exact moment, I feel the urge to use the restroom, but nothing worse than that of course.

I laugh when she really stretches out, because from side to side of my expanded, stretched-out tummy, I feel movement on either side simultaneously.  Sometimes I feel top to bottom movement, again simultaneously.  I am inspired to tell her hello Melina - what are you doing exactly?  I wonder about her sensations and how she feels inside when I’m in different positions.  It is apparent at times she might not be comfortable because I can get a strong pain at times that dissipates immediately as soon as I move out of that position.

I”m scared about her arrival - because of the surgery - I’m scared about the c-section, although I’d likely be as scared delivering her naturally - but pray to God for a safe delivery, a healthy delivery of both Mom and child.  Her movement inside appears to be strong, so we pray for continued development of her lungs, and fat storage.  As we come up on 34 weeks, this Friday, she is only three weeks away from being out of pre-term labor concerns.  She will deliver a week or so early by c-section, again if doctor has his wishes.

The biggest challenge for me has been sleep the entire pregnancy.  It’s not just Melina’s movement, or growing size, or how she feels inside, it’s thinking of projects, taking care of dog, and three cats (one of whom is sick), and making sure or trying to make sure I’m doing everything or almost everything correctly, by myself for that matter.  I have a cat and dog who love to sleep with me.  One who is sick and wishes to be comforted, the other who is young, but is a “nester” and loves to sleep right alongside me (and she’s 55 plus pounds).  I have another cat who is nocturnal and occasionally picks a fight with the sick one at some odd hour.  Misha cries out, and I know Monroe, the young bully is on the prowl.  Just two more cats to keep me awake - and then I have to pee of course, and then the dog has to get up and pee outside, and then I’m ready for a midnight snack as you can imagine, although it’s 4 a.m.  I’m stiff when I wake up, and figure the circulation is actually a good thing.  But one way to shut out the distractions, is to shut out all the animals at night.  The only problem with that - is that Misha will scratch at my door - and Lucky will well, she won’t sleep the night if she’s in the foyer kennelled.  And I don’t trust new rescue dog to stay awake and not get into things she isn’t supposed to.

The only cat that rarely bothers me at night, is Bentley, the new rescue cat.  He’s nocturnal to some degree, but usually it’s around 6 a.m. when he’s hungry, and wants to be let outdoors, as he’s an indoor/outdoor rescue cat.

People say I need my sleep now, because I won’t get it when Melina arrives.  I believe that, but the only way I can sleep at night, is to turn off brain, cats, dog, and running a business which is hard at best, if not impossible.

A good night’s sleep - I tell you when I had one - at the Westin in Waltham MA last week, after I worked till 2 a.m. and had to rise at 7:30 a.m.  and took a Tylenol PM (yes, doctor recommended it to break insomnia cycle).  Okay, Melina is moving about in the middle of the tummy and it’s borderline hurting.  I’m off to bed, in hopes of another night of undisturbed sleep.  Misha is staring at me - perhaps he’ll forgive me if I keep him out of the room tonight?  Hmmmm.
